West Wight Swimming Club
Overview
West Wight Swimming Club is the oldest swimming club on the Isle of Wight and has been helping swimmers develop skills, confidence and a love of swimming since 1969.
Founded by a group of local people who simply wanted to swim for enjoyment, the club became affiliated to Swim England (formerly the ASA) in 1971. After using a number of pools around the Island, members of the club played a key role in creating the West Wight Swimming Pool Trust, which worked alongside local fundraising group SPLASH to build a permanent swimming pool in Freshwater.
Their vision became a reality in 1978 when the Island's first indoor heated swimming pool was officially opened by the Earl Mountbatten of Burma. Today, that legacy continues through both the swimming club and the wider West Wight Sports and Community Centre.
West Wight Swimming Club remains a thriving and inclusive club, giving children and adults the opportunity to enjoy swimming, improve fitness and develop competitive swimming skills in a supportive environment.
Please note: West Wight Swimming Club is an independent organisation that uses the facilities at West Wight Sports and Community Centre. Club membership is separate from Centre memberships and activities.
